International School Breda

We purchased what we call the "Big Orange Bottle". Having seen a similar container at a local university the Eco Team tracked down where we could find the same one. We paid for it with the money we have been sponsored by the Gemeente Breda for being part of the KlasseDeal (where we pick up litter around our area of school). An MYP1 student was already busy with the collection of statiegeld bottles for her Service as Action project. This gave her a very visible container to use. She made the posters for the outside.

  • Welke tips wil je andere Eco-teams geven bij het organiseren van een activiteit/evenement?: Whilst the big orange bottle is a big investment we feel it is worth it. It is very visible. It is clear what it is for and it is something that we hope to be able to use for many years to come. You need to have a clear plan for who will take the bottles away, how often and what will be done with the money. Transparency on this will help. It's good to educate all members of the school community about this.
  • Onderwijstype: Voortgezet onderwijs
  • Waarom zijn jullie hier trots op?: We have noticed that some students throw their plastic bottles in the bin / plastic recycling even though each bottle has 15cents statiegeld on it. We are actively preventing these bottles and cans going to waste or recycling whilst also supporting one of our chosen charities. The money for the bottles collected will initially go to UNICEF. This is the chosen charity that one of our MYP1 students wants to support as part of her Service as Action project. This is an initiative for our whole school community - including both primary and secondary students.
